Wills & Finances

Death, Incapacity and the Inland Revenue

They are all frightening prospects, which we tend only to consider in our darker moments. But that need not be the case. Our Trust Department is aptly named. You can rely on us to provide sound and sympathetic advice in these sensitive areas of the law.

Death - It happens to us all and yet we are reluctant to make any plans for it. A will is a simple, cheap and
effective way to ensure that that life goes on without hardship and family squabbles after you have gone.

Dealing with the estate of someone who has died, either directly as an executor named in the will, or indirectly as advisors to the named executor, (perhaps your spouse), needs thoughtfulness as well as experience.

We handle not only all the legal requirements, but can also help in the more practical and sometimes very difficult matters - such as the funeral arrangements.

Incapacity - Sometimes we have to trust others to make decisions for us, when we are incapable of making those decisions ourselves. This may be due to illness, old age or simply because we are out of the country or away when the decision needs to be made.

A power of attorney given to a trusted friend, colleague or your solicitor is the practical solution. They are then able to act in your place, taking decisions on your behalf and signing documentation for you. This can be for all matters or you can restrict their authority. Again we make it a simple process.

Inland Revenue - Financial advice has always been part of a solicitor's work. Our financial experience includes obtaining independent investment advice; tax planning and completion of annual Income Tax returns with complete management of financial affairs for clients in residential care.

If you would like to talk to someone with a sympathetic ear call us on 01243 864001 or e-mail yorkroad@staffurth.co.uk.
